Employment Skills

English for Safe Work (Term I)

Pre-employment program designed to support adult learners to improve their literacy and communication skills to prepare for formal/accredited Safety Programs and/or employment.

Skills in focus: communication, problem solving and creative thinking skills to be able to follow and explain basic safety procedures at work, such as emergency evacuation and fire safety, proper hand washing for food safety and incident reporting.

Venue: Chisholm Skills and Jobs Centre, 311 Lonsdale Street, Dandenong

When: Tuesdays, 10am – 2pm (BYO lunch)

English for Customer Service Work (Term II)

Pre-employment program designed to support adult learners to improve their literacy and communication skills and broaden their employment options to roles and industries where customer service is essential.

Skills in focus: communication, problem solving and creative thinking to be able to perform work involving interactions with customers, dealing with complaints and difficult people, and working within a team.

Venue: Chisholm Skills and Jobs Centre, 311 Lonsdale Street, Dandenong

When: Tuesdays, 10am – 2pm (BYO lunch)

Digital Interview Skills (Term I & II)

The program will support adult learners to be ready for job interviews and be able to participate in digital (pre-recorded video or live on-line) interviews.

Venue: Springvale Learning and Activities Centre, 1 Osborne Avenue, Springvale

When: Wednesdays, 5.30pm – 8.30pm

Start Date: Wednesday, 26th February          Finish Date: Wednesday, 15th April

5STAR Interview Skills (Term I)

STAR stands for Situation-Task-Action-Result, a classic formula to respond to selection criteria and interview questions. On completion of the program, each learner will be able to clearly articulate 5 stories within the formula that can be used at job interviews. This will lead to successful employment outcomes and/or better understanding of English language literacy gaps and pathwaying to an appropriate pre-accredited or VET program.

Bridge to Community Services Work Level 1 (Term I)

The course is designed to improve work skills and to provide a smooth pathway into accredited programs: CHC22015 Certificate II in Community Services or CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services.

Venue: Springvale Learning and Activities Centre, 1 Osborne Avenue, Springvale

When: Mondays, 10am – 2pm

Bridge to Community Services Work Level 2

Level 2 course is based on more complex content and provides a taster of the learning effort required to achieve Diploma of Community Services/Community Development.  While there is no obligation, participants may choose to complete assessments and apply for formal statement(s) of attainment

Sewing Alterations Business Skills (Term II)

This 8-week course will provide learners with the basic alteration techniques, such as hems, seams, buttons, zippers, accurate measuring, ironing and professional finish. The learners will also benefit by learning professional jargon and communication for the sewing and alteration work, fashion design and dress-making. Suitable for adult learners interested in validating and/or developing their sewing and clothes alteration skills for employment, own business and/or further VET pathways.

Digital Skills (Terms I and II)

Beginner to intermediate skills in operating personal computer with Windows  operating system.
Basic understanding of computer hardware and software.
MSOFFICE  applications – Word, Excel, Power Point.
Access and use the internet (search engines, e-mailing, basic security).

Digital marketing and using Social Media for business purposes.
