Part of the Community Since 1945

Welcome to Springvale Learning and Activities Centre (SLAC)!

We offer learning, skills development, and direct assistance to help break the cycle of poverty, isolation, and poor health. Our diverse group of participants ranges from teenagers to seniors with cultural backgrounds from every continent. Up to 2,000 people participate in our programs every week. Come and join us now!

Dancing Class on Saturday, April 30!

"According to the OECD, 40–50% of adults in Australia have literacy levels below the international standard required for participation in work, education and society." (The Conversation, 2021)

Here at SLAC one of our main goals in our adult education programs is to help adults increase their literacy levels. Last year we started a reading program that walks slowly through the phonetic rules of English so that all our pre beginner students have a solid phonics foundation. It is always encouraging to see students who enter our programs with no knowledge of reading to finish the year reading!

If you know someone who would like help with their reading and general literacy skills please pass on our details! We love to help students learn how to read!
